日本新感觉派作家、小说家,一生创作小说一百多部,代表作有《雪国》《伊豆舞女》《千鹤》《古都》《山音》《睡美人》等。1968年荣获诺贝尔文学奖,瑞典学院称其“以敏锐的感受、高超的叙事技巧表现了日本人心灵的精髓”。

林少华

还是让我从村上春树对川端康成的评价讲起吧。这倒不是由于我是大半个村上翻译“专业户”,而是因我觉得我若不讲,即使川端文学研究专家也未必“拾遗”。应该说,村上不仅是风靡当世的小说家,而且作为文学评论家也每有一家之言或一得之见。如关于川端康成,村上在为哈佛大学教授杰·鲁宾编选和翻译的《芥川龙之介短篇集》所撰长篇序言中写道:“就川端的作品而言,老实说,我喜欢不来。当然这并非不承认其文学价值,对于他作为小说家的实力也是认可的,但对于其小说世界的形态(ありよう),我个人则无法怀有共鸣。”
