习近平总书记在一次座谈会上引用了恩格斯的一段话。恩格斯说,文艺复兴是“一个需要巨人而且产生了巨人——在思维能力、热情和性格方面,在多才多艺和学识渊博方面的巨人的时代”。恩格斯的这句话对我们当今的人才培养非常有启发。我们谈人才,一般只重视知识的灌输、技能的训练,而忽视心灵的教化和人格的培养,不注重引导青少年去寻求人生的意义和价值。而恩格斯谈人才,首先是说“思维能力”,接着说“热情和性格”,然后是“多才多艺和学识渊博”,这就对我们的人才培养提出了极高的要求,同时也使我们的眼光从专业知识和技能的遮蔽中解放出来。
21世纪的人才培养,要注重精神、性格、胸襟、涵养等方面的要求。我们需要的人才,应该有着高尚的人格、完满的人性、审美的心胸、良好的修养,是身心和谐、全面发展的人。这样的人才,不仅具有高层次的想象力和创造力,而且具有广阔的眼界和胸襟,致力于追求一种更有意义、更有价值和更有情趣的人生,致力于追求人生的神圣价值。

1. 大家眼中的贾宝玉
《红楼梦》里写到了很多人物。根据著名红学家徐恭时先生的统计,《红楼梦》里描写的男性人物有495人,女性人物有480人,其中有名有姓、有具体称谓的有732人。不少人物都塑造得非常好,特别成功,成为超越真实人物的永久性艺术典型,这也可以说是《红楼梦》这部小说的一个杰出的艺术成就。
在过去一百多年的《红楼梦》研究里,《红楼梦》的人物研究成为一个很重要的内容。其中有一些代表性的论著,比如王昆仑的《红楼梦人物论》、蒋和森的《红楼梦论稿》、李希凡的《红楼梦人物论》,这些都是研究《红楼梦》人物的专著。周汝昌的《红楼梦与中华文化》和王蒙的《红楼启示录》中的部分章节,也在谈论《红楼梦》里的人物。吴组缃等先生的一些论文,也对《红楼梦》人物进行过专门的研究。他们的研究,都无一例外地涉及贾宝玉这个重要的人物,让我们认识到这个人物形象的复杂性和丰富性。
我这里对贾宝玉的讨论,吸取了前辈学者的很多观点,同时也提出我个人的一些看法。有学者说贾宝玉是《红楼梦》的精神和灵魂,是小说复杂的人物关系网络和故事情节结构的枢纽。这个看法已经成为红学界的一个基本共识。鲁迅先生早在《中国小说史略》里谈到《红楼梦》的时候,说过一句很精辟的话:“悲凉之雾,遍被华林,然呼吸而领会之者,独宝玉而已。”由此看来,我们要理解《红楼梦》,首先就要理解贾宝玉这个人物形象的意义。而要理解贾宝玉这个人物形象的意义,我们又要先理解这个人物的性格、思想、情感和命运。
关于贾宝玉的性格,小说通过很多人物之口进行过不少直接评价。重要和著名的,就是第二回“冷子兴演说荣国府”中,说起宝玉衔玉而生这样的一件轶闻趣事,贾雨村听了之后就笑着说贾宝玉:“果然奇异。只怕这个人来历不小。”紧接着,贾雨村就发表了一番著名的“正邪两赋论”。
从贾宝玉这个人物身上所具备的这样一种超时空的性格共性来看,周汝昌先生的这个概括我觉得是非常精辟的。曹雪芹在塑造这样一个人物的时候,他既意识到了历史上所有与此同类者的共同性格特点,对他们的共性进行了高度的抽象,上升到了哲学思考的层次,同时他也生动细腻地描写了这样一个共性在贾宝玉这一特定的时代产儿身上的各种具体表现。
