酤酒田家饮，醉倒妪与翁。
当年姬金泉和赵映碧两位蜀绣大师担纲设计，要在约2平方米的设计图上，完成孙悟空三打白骨精、三借芭蕉扇、大闹盘丝洞和龟渡通天河等故事的图案设计，将唐僧、孙悟空、猪八戒、沙僧、白龙马、牛魔王、铁扇公主以及蜘蛛精等人物的相关物件加以变形拼图处理，后完成了一幅工笔彩绘图样，难度是前所未有的。参加《西游记》具体刺绣的绣工们则要根据人物、场景和部位的不同设计不同针法，尽可能多地包含和展现蜀绣的针法技艺。后在众多绣工的通力协作下，花了大约半年时间，才创作完成了这幅蜀绣巨制。
整幅作品大量使用了锦纹针，这也是蜀绣与其他几种名绣鲜明的区别。成都古代织锦工艺发达，产生了丰富的织锦纹样，蜀绣先辈们于是创造了以刺绣方式模仿织锦纹样和纱线肌理的锦纹针，主要用来表现人物衣饰。它需要先用长针铺底，再在上面绣出花纹，据说是有多少蜀锦纹，就有多少锦纹针。用拉花锦、米字锦、栀子锦等针法，人物衣饰就能显示出雍容华贵；而草帽等物件也因此有了编织物的肌理。
集蜀绣千年针法技艺为一身的巨幅蜀绣《西游记》，堪称蜀绣教科书。
2006年，蜀绣首批被列入国家非物质文化遗产名录。
