I've been battling mice off and on for the last 8+ years and consequently, I've tried nearly all varieties of traps and most especially snap traps. While I initially favored the Victor brand, they can be costly, and these JT Eaton's are a great replacement. A few key things to note however:(1) These things are SENSITIVE. Be prepared to get bitten a few times as you initially learn the feel of these buggers. The best way I've devised is:--- Install the bait first - Only after the bait is installed should you then enable the trap.--- After enabling the trap, keep a finger UNDER the bait platform (see picture) - This will keep the platform elevated so the trap cannot trigger.--- Keep that finger in place until the trap is all the on the ground where it will be placed into position.--- Lay the trap down gently - no dropping even from 1/2" - they can and will often fire off.--- When positioning, move the trap very slowly - basically just think mechanical nitro-glycerin.(2) I typically have 1 or 2 "bad" units in each dozen that I buy. Now when I say "bad", I just mean that one or more of the anchor staples is broken, missing, bent, or otherwise installed improperly. Most of these issues are easily resolved with a pair of needle-nose.--- For example, in the other picture, you will see that the retention bar is too close to the bait platform and cannot fit into the platform's notch. This is because the staple that anchors the bait platform is bent slightly towards the retention bar. This is resolved by slightly pushing that staple away from the retention bar to the point just where the notch can only be engaged when the platform is raised.Good luck...and always WEAR GLOVES - both for safety and health reasons. 8+ mil nitrile should suffice.

I have tried several types of traps. These with the wide yellow pads seem more effective at catching mice than others I've tried. Unfortunately, all the traps I've bought over the years seem to break in a relatively short period of time. At least these are relatively inexpensive.

Best mouse traps ive ever had. I love across from an empty feild so my house is prone to having mice. I orderd these because the mice were able to get the peanut butter of the other traps i had without setting it off. These ones have worked every time! Sooo worth the money. The only downfall is they are messy... They dont hit the neck but instead hit the head so be preapred to have some bleach and a rag to clean up some of the mess it leaves behind. Im just thankful thats not always the case its just every now and then that it happens that way.

.This trap does works well, better than the Victor version - which costs more. The reason is that it has two springs instead of one. This produces a balanced force on the snap bar and lessens the force on one of the pivot staples. If you have used a Victor trap and had it go off accidentally it often yanks out a pivot staple rendering the trap useless. Also, I believe the net energy delivered to the rodent is higher. I have often found a mouse trapped, but alive, in a Victor trap but never in the Eaton. There are a number of negative comments about this trap but I believe that they are due to a lack of understanding as to how to use a snap trap. Do not expect any cheap snap trap to work as delivered. It must be adjusted. The angle of the hold bar is critical. You must adjust it, by bending, to get the trap to go off with only slight pressure applied to the plastic piece and enough hold not to go off due to vibration. Also, there is sometimes a burr on the end of the hold bar that snags the plastic and prevents the trap from firing easily. Maybe 20% of the Victors have this problem, If there, the burr must be filed off. Finally, I use peanut butter as bait. Use just a little and force it into the holes in the plastic. This way the mouse has work to get the food and is almost certain to set off the trap.

First, all 12 were perfect. None had any manufacturing flaws. The box is small making it easy to store. Setting them up was simple, no broken fingers! Within 5 minutes of delivery I set up 4 traps baited with peanut butter and placed them in the high mouse traffic areas. 20 minutes later I heard a snap, 1 mouse down, 5 minutes later 2nd mouse down. Less than a half an hour from delivery and I might have eliminated my mouse problem! Reset one more where the first was caught just in case. Bottom line: great quality traps, low cost, easy to use, gets the job done! Very satisfied customer!!!!!!!!!!!!
