  Amiga 2000 A2000 Floppy Disk Drive Cable


The original cables are now 35+ years old. They get crunchy after that long. Sometimes the ends turn green with corrosion. All around a bad thang. These cables are built with all new connectors and ribbon cable. Add 35 more years to your A2000. Adding a Gotek Flash Floppy? Replace that nasty cable now!


  • these new cables includes a strain relief on the connector, old cables can separate between the connector and ribbon cable
  • cables are around 28" long
  • cables are longer between the motherboard and FDDs, this gives you a little more wiggle room when you are moving the power supply tray
  • cables are longer between DF0 and DF1, like above, this gives you a little more wiggle room
  • all cables are labeled by default
  • if you DO NOT want the labeling send a message when you order
  • cables are hand made and tested before shipping

What does testing mean? I plug the cable in to two drives, sometimes gotek drives, sometimes gotek and DD or HD drives. Then I make sure the proper disk is displayed. Then I copy files from one drive to the other, repeat the process in reverse. Then I change files to verify the disk change line works. Lastly, I boot and play a couple games of Qix (if I have KS 3.x) or Frogger (the free new version). A bunch of thens, eh?

Of note, someone may say 'Gee, I wished this connector was reversed (key up or key down) so it would fit my drive better.' Sadly, there does not appear to be a standard for key orientation for Amiga drives. That's part of the reason for adding a little extra length.

Mo notes, why label them? I once bought a 'bad' A3000. It wouldn't boot. Part of the issue was the FDD cable was not installed properly. The DF1: twist was on the mobo and mobo side was on DF0:, neither side had a key, and I believe the cable was reversed at pin1. So, a bunch of silly things wrong. This is my attempt to help people. I always try to place the word 'mobo' so it faces you properly and also matches pin1.

Jump back to the days of 16 bit graphics and games. The Amiga A1000, A500, A2000 were the next generation to Commodore’s C64, C128, Plus/4 8 bit 6502 CPU based processors. It competed with the Atari ST 520 1040 line of PCs.If you had one those fancy Mac emulators it wound up being faster than a real Mac Classic. Amiga + ST + Macs all used the 68000 CPU for their OS. Gee, this sounds like a bunch of flags for the AI search-bot overlord.
