The calibration procedure did not work exactly as the printed instructions specified, nor do the video calibration instructions match the written, but I got it calibrated without much trouble and it appears to be working perfectly. "Nice" brand alkaline water from Walgreen's, labeled as 9.5 pH, was measured at 7.3, while 365 brand alkaline water from Whole Foods I measured exactly as labeled.I am not sure how to get more buffer powder if the unit needs to be re calibrated. The instructions do not include any contact information. The instructions say to contact the manufacturer "through " but I cannot figure out how to do that.

I use the oh metef for canning salsa, and no matter how perfectly or repeatedly i calibrate it, it reads within a 0.5 margin, which is not what it claims at a 0.2 margin for error. Salsa ph must be below 4.5 so i overdo it and get it down to 3.8 just in case the meter is off. Better safe than botulism! If you need for more accurate testing, look elsewhere.

Reality is I read the bad reviews and I worried some. But I took a chance because a buddy uses this Ph meter and said it was legit. I read the directions and calibrated it. 250mls of water mixed with the little solvent packages. It was exact calibrations of 4.0, 6.16, and 9.19 (or whatever the mix packets said it was supposed to be I am going off memory from last night). And my distilled water read 5.39 and tap read 7.31. And that's about averages. So I have reason to believe the accuracy of +/- of .01 is valid. People probably don't read the directions or don't properly mix/dissolve the packets and get false readings and say "junk". Now I don't know how durable this item will be. Feels ok though. And I don't know what happens after the battery dies and I replace it. I assume recalibration. For me that won't take long because I did what the instructions said and kept the dissolved solutions and labeled them. So in closing, good item imho.

This Vivosun PH Meter has walked the talk right outa the case. The 3 solutions that came with it I put in each 3 1/2 pint jars as to save to re-calibrate if and when necessary because their is no replacement solution for this model. The PH Meter calibrated perfectly (I know right !) has metered the PH of my water several times since checking its accuracy by multiple buckets of same water. It does not measure temperature so I have the Vivosun TDS meter for that and checking run off PPM. The illuminated panel (green) does not stay lit very long at all but you get use to working fast and if outside that helps.Read your instructions and ALWAYS use Distilled water to Calibrate and clean (dip) PH Meter into after being in your tested water. Use a soft cloth I use Viva Paper towels to gently wrap around the end to dry Always turn off the meter before dipping it in the distilled water. I keep another small wide mouth jelly jar for this changing it out every other use. I also dip and clean my TDS Meter like this. Maintenance is key to keeping the glass bulb inside at the bottom tip of these meters. If broken damaged or dried out will no longer function properly or at all. You will need PH UP and PH dOWN to adjust your water’s PH accordingly to what plant your watering. Peace and plant love

The product is as good as you calibrate it but honestly pretty upset the way the calibration work should have a selection to choice from which 3 to choose from. Because when I was calibrating it my meter reset and some how start calibrating 6.86 in the 4 solution and after that it was done for. Because then every time I try to calibrate for ph4 meter won’t go lower then 6.86 so then youre stuck with a meter you can’t calibrate. Other then that didn’t even last 3 weeks before this happen. I just ordered another it does it again I won’t be buying another . If they would just add a selection feature to choose which ph you want to calibrate would be way better.Edit adding another star for Vivosun customer service that reached out and offered me a refund on the ph meter

It helped me get the pH I wanted for my plants. It appears to be well constructed. I really like how the display lights up upon first use, though I wish it would stay lit because the first several seconds are never accurate, you have to let it calculate and settle for about 60 seconds.Photo is of my pen in my DIY storage solution after 24 hours.WARNINGS FOR ALL NOOBS: Do not trust or test any of these types of products for water resiliency. Do not drop them in water. Only the first 1-1.5in is supposed to ever go into a solution. It shows this on the piece of paper that comes with the product. To avoid contamination do not test directly in your solution. Pour some solution into a small glass to test. STORAGE: as soon as you open up your pen, store your product in electrode solution. If you are not smart: buy a bottle of solution on . If you are smart you can make your own: buy on a 1lb bag of KCL, an AMIR portable scale, and some graduated pipettes, and de-ionized water from the grocery store (mine had a machine I had to run to fill up with freshly filtered water). I tested distilled versus reverse osmosis and the RO water was closer to 7.0 so I used this for my solution. Then weigh out and mix 7.45g KCL in 100mL of your neutral water to make 4 molarity (4M) KCL solution. Boom. You now have a lifetime supply of storage solution. I found that through a quick Google Search (Omega Engineering's pH electrode PDF). Pull the pen out of solution, rinse off with a neutral water, put pen in a small glass with 1 inch of solution to test, record value, rinse off with neutral water, place pen back into storage solution.I gave it four stars for several reasons:1) "Very accurate". Meaning, it helps me get closer to the pH I want by increasing accuracy within a 0.1 to 0.5pH range. I don't trust the factory calibration because I have already used it with some variance. I think as soon as you take an electrode out and use it on one source of water you have impaired its ability to test another solution. For analog chemical reagent tests, I have used a general purpose hot tub kit and a General Hydroponics reagent test. It beats the hot tub kit by a huge margin (since that reagent test only tests from 6.8 to 8.2), and the GH reagent kit by a margin of 0.5-0.9pH. E.g. GH was showing 6.5pH, actual 6.2 (with this pen). Then I adjusted pH. GH showed 5.0. Actual was 5.8 (with this pen).2) "Cheap" - can't find anything cheaper.3) It only includes 1 calibration test kit and no reference of where to get more. I would pay $5-$10 more to have a bundle of calibration packets added to my order.4) The display light does not stay on and there is no "light" button.
