The housing body is made of reinforced polypropylene for strength & resistance to chemicals, and the black cap is made of high-flow polypropylene for toughness. The cap has 1" inlet / outlet brass ports which allowed better sealed connections to the corresponding pipes. 10”x 4.5” 5 Micron Block Activated Carbon Filters used for effectively removing remove chlorine, bad taste & odor from water.
  • POINT OF USE: This System for use in various high-flow applications and is usually placed in the main water line entering the house including, but not limited to residential drinking water filtration, well water filtration, food service, and irrigation. When people say water filter, they most frequently mean a carbon filter of some variety, because since the Egyptians discovered that storing water in charcoal made it stay fresher and taste better, carbon has been a standard feature in water treatment. Its centuries of popularity attest to its effectiveness.

The Big 10 x 4.5-inch Activated Carbon Block filters are made of fine coconut shell carbon. They remove odors, undesirable colors, and unpleasant tastes of many organic compounds. These filters also are effective in removing chemicals like iron, manganese, chlorine, and hydrogen sulfide from your water to name a few. By removing these unwanted byproducts, you can rest assured that you will have access to fresh and clean water. Since these filters are made of a finely packed carbon (forming a cylinder block), they offer a much finer filtration of suspended particles and dirt.

​The main difference between the regular Activated Carbon Block filter and the Big 10 x 4.5-inch Activated Carbon Block Filter is the size, a Big filter is usually used for filtering the water on the entrance into the house, appropriately called whole house filter. It is able to filter a larger volume of water than a regular filter with its larger surface area, larger size, and larger radius.

Chlorine removal is what carbon is best at, and nothing else equals carbon's ability to remove chlorine.

What is Activated Carbon Block?

There are many types of carbon. Most filter carbon is manufactured from coal, but other substances like wood and nut shells are also used. Coconut shell carbon is becoming popular not only because it is made from a renewable resource but also because it produces very good tasting water and is particularly good at trihalomethane removal.

Besides the physical absorption that the Activated Carbon Block filter can provide, it also filters the water via a chemical process. The Activated Carbon Block filter is positively charged, thus it is able to attract negatively charged particles such as: chlorine, benzine, and other volatile organic compounds, and prevent them from flowing out into your glass. Carbon is well known for its unique absorbing ability; just a pound of carbon is able to provide up 125 acres of filtering surface area.
