🌙 In this card, we see The Morrigan, her raven’s wings in motion as she hovers above her crowd of victims. She is the Celtic goddess of birth and death, and as such is the perfect embodiment of what this card symbolizes. Also known as the Phantom Queen, The Morrigan is more well-known for her relationship with death and the battlefield. Her association with battle implies that she is an indiscriminate bringer of death. The inevitable cycle of life and death cannot be controlled or evaded. Her presence in this card serves as a reminder of that all important truth.
🖤 She is dressed in black as a metaphor for mourning. Around her neck is a necklace depicting a white flower with five petals. The color of this flower symbolizes purity and immortality, while the number five represents the five senses and the infallible nature of change.
🌙 Above her head, we see the New Moon. As it shines above this scene, we are reminded once again of the true meaning of this card -- new beginnings. Though this card might evoke a feeling of dread upon first sight, it is far from a negative card. Just as the notion of death is an unchanging certainty, so is change. It is best to move with the ebb and flow that guides our lives rather than fighting against the current.
🖤 Ravens play a very important role in the imagery within this card. This bird embodies the idea of adaptability. Incidentally, ravens are also an omen for death in many cultures, thus building yet another bridge between this goddess and this card. We chose to incorporate six ravens, as well as six faces below, because the number six symbolizes healing and harmony. Once again, this card urges the reader to move forward into change with an open heart and mind. Though the challenges you are facing seem daunting right now, you must accept them. By doing so with the proper focus and intention, you will find your happiness and harmony sooner than you would should you continue clinging to your comfort zone.
