Als die gebürtige Argentinierin Sol Gabetta Anfang 2004 den hochdotierten "Crédit Suisse Young Artist Award" gewann, bekam sie damit die Möglichkeit, bei zwei Spitzenorchestern zu debütieren. Im Rahmen des Lucerne Festivals 2004 spielte sie so mit den Wiener Philharmonikern unter Valery Gergiev das 2. Violoncello-Konzert von Dmitri Schostakowitsch. Im Februar 2005 gastierte Gabetta bei den Wiener Symphonikern. Und erneut stand mit Peter Tschaikowskys "Rokoko-Variationen" ein Klassiker der russischen Cello-Literatur auf dem Programm. Mit diesem 1877 uraufgeführten Virtuosenstück eröffnet nun Sol Gabetta auch ihr CD-Debüt. Ein besonderes Tribut zollt die 25-jährige Ihrer Heimat Argentinien mit der "Pampeana" Nr.2 von Alberto Ginastera. Die Auswahl der Kompositionen aus den drei verschiedenen Kulturkreisen Argentinien, Frankreich und Rußland spiegelt Sol Gabettas enormes Können wider.
