d-d-d-d-A - das sind die funf Tone des vielleicht beruhmtesten Pauken-Solos der Musikgeschichte, denn mit diesen eroffnet Johann Sebastian Bach den Eingangschor 'Jauchzet, frohlocket' zum ersten Teil seines Weihnachtsoratoriums.Dass sich die Komposition einmal zum wohl beruhmtesten Chorwerk der Weihnachtszeit entwickeln wurde, hatten sicherlich weder Bach noch die Leipziger Bevolkerung erwartet, wo es doch zunachst 'lediglich' als Liturgiemusik konzipiert war.Als 'Oratorium auf die Heilige Weyhnacht' hatte Bach das Werk fur die Gottesdienste zwischen dem 25.Dezember und 6.Januar 1734/35 konzipiert und fuhrte es in der Thomaskirche sowie in der Nikolaikirche auf.Nachdem der letzte Teil des Oratoriums dann am Dreikonigsfest 1735 verklungen war, schlummerte dieses Meisterwerk beinahe vergessen fur knapp hundert Jahre in den Archiven der Berliner Sing-Akademie, bis es die Konigliche Bibliothek 1854 erwarb.1857 erfolgte dann erstmals wieder eine vollstandige Auffuhrung im Konzerthaus der Neuen Wache unter Eduard Grell.Seither ist das Werk ein nicht wegzudenkender Teil der Advents-und Weihnachtszeit, allenthalben erklingt es in Konzertsalen und Kirchen, interpretiert von Laien- oder Profimusikern.Unter der Vielzahl an Aufnahmen des Weihnachtsoratoriums, die auf dem Markt zu finden sind, sticht die Einspielung von Hans-Christoph Rademann besonders hervor, etablierte sich dieser in den letzten Jahren doch als formidabler Bach-Meister, seine Aufnahme der H-Moll-Messe (CAR 83314/83315) wurde von der Fachwelt begeistert aufgenommen, ebenso die der Kantaten 126 & 79 (CAR 83311).So ist es nur folgerichtig, dass auch seine Interpretation diskografische Massstabe setzen wird, was auch der herausragenden Gaechinger Cantorey sowie den subtil und doch dramatisch auftretenden Gesangssolisten geschuldet ist.
