本书并不囿于原书的格式，中国美术学院教授蒋跃将自己从学生时代便开始研读伯里曼图书的个人研读的心得体会，以及在中国美术学院 30 余年的教学体会，融入每页插图的讲解之中，针对中国的初学者将内容打散后彻底重新编写为“导学版”， 形成真正的经典中的经典。
乔治·伯里曼全名为乔治·勃兰特·伯里曼（George Brandt Bridgman，1865-1943），加拿大裔美国画家，在纽约大学艺术学院任教45年，教授解剖学和人体绘画课，是一位才华横溢的讲师和导师。伯里曼将复杂的人体结构简化为方块和线条的组合，以表现肌肉和骨骼在运动中的变化。他编写的Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life，汇集了毕生的研究成果和教学经验，被公认为经典的艺用人体结构教程。
蒋跃，中国美术学院教授、中国水彩画家协会秘书长、浙江美术家协会主席团成员、副秘书长、浙江水彩画家协会副会长、《美术报》原副社长。多幅作品被俄罗斯政府、挪威使馆、中国国家文化部等收藏。
成辉，毕业于中国美术学院。2009年大学期间创办了杭州光艺画室， 2012年毕业后开始主编一线教学系列图书，包括《画考题静物照片书》《画考题头像照片书》等 ，并策划《杭州风景》 《国艺兄弟》等书。2013年主编“一线教学步步精心”系列丛书，目前累计出版艺术类图书100余种，产生较广的社会效应。

在现在的图书市场上，本书不再稀罕，多家出版社 已经出版了很多种版本。我仔细看后觉得仍有拓展的空 间。我并不囿于原书的格式，在将内容打散后，彻底重 新编写。之所以将此版本称为“导读版”，是因为我觉 得有几个亮点:首先，我将在中国美术学院 30 余年的 教学体会融于此书之中，把我个人研读的心得体会加进
对每页插图的讲解之中，这不仅大大丰富了本书的艺术 内涵和思想境界，而且可以帮助大家理解、记忆。另外， 参照原作者的理论精神，我加写了学习的指导思想—— 概论。其次，我将一些以讹传讹的地方进行勘误，使其 更加精确、完美。再次，本书的特点是将乔治伯 里曼的三本书整合在了一起，图片比其他版本的更加丰 富，体系更加丰满和完整，排版也更加合理、美观。
我觉得这也正是“主编”的意义所在:“老书开新花”，而不是简单地照搬和照抄。这样，研习者们才会有所发现，有所领悟。我认为这样的一个新版本，就像字典一样，是可以使用一辈子的工具书。人体造型结构学的基本原理是用直线、弧线、立体几何、大的体块去分析物象，并且由整体到局部、由简到繁地逐步深入。我们通过一定时间的学习，学会把人体按形体规律进行分析，在整体结合。我觉得要立体地认识复杂的人体造型，用几何体积的方法去分析和理解人体的体积、外形，这样有助于对形体的记忆。因为只有理解人体体积，才能有条理地层层深入，记住其关键所在。除此之外，我们也要把握好人体的整体比例和动态规律等。
