《弘一法师全集》共四册，内容包含弘一法师讲经说佛的文字、以及他的书信，另外还包括法师出家前谈艺的全部文字。需要特别说明的是法师的书信部分，书信大多是写给友人的私人信件，有的信件同时随附明信片，所以有些书信在正文内容结束之后，另有法师的“附白”或“又白”等另附的内容。个别书信因保留不全，无法查证收信人姓名，遂本着求真、求实、求全的做事风格，将此类书信中现有内容编入书中，以期读者能看到法师的*全*真的著作。

从容弘法的感悟
从我出家以后，一直到现在，近二十年的时间里，我一直在修持戒律，并且一直不曾化缘、修庙、剃度徒众，也不曾做过住持或监院之类的职务，甚至极少接受一般人的供养。有的时候供养确实无法推却，只好收下，然后转给寺庙。至于我个人的日常花用，一般由我过去的几位朋友或学生来赞助的。因为我自开始修持戒律后，从律学的角度来讲，随便收受他人的馈赠，即便是施主真心真意的供养，也是犯了五戒中的盗戒；再者说，随便收受他人的馈赠，会滋养恶习，不利于修行，更不利于佛法的参悟。所以，我对金钱方面的事情，极为注意，丝毫不敢懈怠。记得我在出家后的第三年时，有一位上海的居士寄钱给我，让我买僧衣和日常用品，我把钱退了回去，并婉言相告表示谢意。
在我出家的这二十年时间里，我先后在杭州的玉泉寺、嘉兴精严寺、衢州莲华寺、温州庆福寺等数十处寺庙住过，其中在温州的时间长。现在这几年一直住在闽南，主要是在泉州和厦门。在闽南的这段时间，我一直是在写书，并将写成的书向僧众们讲解，将宣传戒律的决心付诸于行动。
在闽南是我宣扬戒律重要的时期，而其间让我感到欣慰的是，每到一处讲解戒律时，都会有众多的僧人前来昕录，他们都非常认真。这前后跟我经常在一起的有性常、义俊、瑞今、广洽等十余人，他们都为我宣讲律学给予了不少的帮助。
自此可见，佛法的真实理论和修行的严谨方法，是众多出家人都渴望得到的，也因此我不再害怕佛法不能弘扬了。看来作为一个学道的人，只要心中有春意，就不用世俗的享受来愉悦自己，倒是世间的一切，均可以使自己感到快乐。更何况是为解脱世间众多受苦人的事业而努力，只要有一点成绩和希望，我们都应感到欣喜！另外对于佛教之简易修持法以及我永春的因缘简述一下，我到永春的因缘，初发起，是在三年之前。性愿老法师常常劝我到此地来，又常提起普济寺是如何如何的好。两年以前的春天，我在南普陀讲律圆满以后，妙慧师便到厦门请我到此地来。那时因为学律的人要随行的太多，而普济寺中设备未广，不能够收容，不得已而中止。是为次欲来未果。是年的冬天，有位善兴师，他持著永春诸善友一张请帖，到厦门万石岩去，要接我来永春。那时因为已先应了泉州草庵之请，故不能来永春。是以第二次没有来成。
去年的冬天，妙慧师再到草庵来接。本想随请前来，不意过泉州时，又承诸善友挽留，不得已而延期至今春。是为第三次也没有来成。
直至今年半个月以前，妙慧师又到泉州劝请，是为第四次。因大众既然有如此的盛意，故不得不来。其时在泉州各地讲经，很是忙碌，因此又延搁了半个多月。今得来到贵处，和诸位善友相见，我心中非常欢喜。自三年前就想到此地来，屡次受了事情所阻，现在得来，满其多年的夙愿，更可说是十分地欢喜了。
