禅 蝉 蚕
（一）佛山谈佛，禅城说禅
应邀到广东佛山演讲，举办单位取的讲题是“佛山谈佛，禅城说禅”。
题目取得真好，因为“佛山”另一个古名是“禅城”，佛、禅俱在，可知佛山乃是灵杰之地。
佛山不只是佛禅知名，也以武术知名，叶问、李小龙都是佛山人，佛山至今还有很多武馆，我问接待我的人：“佛山有什么特产可以带回去送人？”
他的回答大出意料之外：“佛山习武的人多，所以跌打损伤的药很灵，可以带回去送人。”
佛山人尚武，喜欢干净利落，我的演讲就从单纯开始，我说：“禅之一字,左边是表示的示，右边是单纯的单，禅正是‘单纯的表示’，也正是单纯的心、单纯的生活、单纯的意念。没有单纯，也就没有禅了。”
明君的父亲说得对极了，但他并不满意，他问我 ： “到底原因出在哪里呢？”
我一时为之语塞，两人默默看着眼前捡食东西的麻雀。我深信，这些麻雀每一只都是极爱惜生命的，人的心念一有杀意，它们就立即能察觉而惊飞，更别说是去追捕它了。这卑微的麻雀都懂得惜生，为什么尊贵的人反而轻贱了生命呢？听到明君的问话，我比他更忧心，因为如果连优秀的青年都不懂得爱惜生命，这个民族是不可能有希望的。
在安全岛上时，我没有给明君答案，回来后我一路看着奔走的人和车，才想到可能有个原因，一是现在的年轻人比从前自私了，只有真正自私的人才会去自杀，如果能想到父母、朋友、社会、人群，只要多想五分钟，就不会去死了。
二是茫然。表面上，现在的青年什么都有，但却缺乏理想主义的色彩，失去价值的追求，从小就考试考到大，后产生价值危机，就茫然地走向死路。
三是生命没有考验的机会，想想我们从前为了多吃一口饭，就要面对艰困的劳作，要零用钱没有、要玩具没有，是在挫折中挣扎长大。现代青年失去了这些机会，想想看如果会为了多吃一口饭而奋斗过的人，绝不会因为一场考试、一次恋爱，甚至一种虚幻之美就自杀的。
我听一位旅居加拿大的中国画家谈过他的父亲从前离乡背井到国外去，在餐厅里当侍者，他和母亲还有祖父留在广东的家乡。这位父亲为了多赚取五毛钱的小费，外国人把饭倒在地上，叫他像狗一样趴着吃，他照做了，因为他挂念家乡的父母妻儿，宁愿牺牲自己的尊严。
这不是画家父亲说给他听的故事，而是我的画家朋友为了描绘华人的艰辛，在博物馆找到一张外国人拍的相片，一位侍者趴着在吃地上的饭，画家看了吃一惊，因为那侍者长得太像自己了，他把照片拷贝回去给父亲看（父亲已经是餐厅老板，并把妻儿都接到国外了），父亲看了老泪纵横，原来那是他青年时代留下的一张照片。
我听到这个故事流了眼泪，我一点也不会瞧不起这位父亲，反而觉得他太伟大了——生命尊贵的意义原来正在这里：为别人活着，活到忘记自己痛苦的地步。这别人即使是亲爱的家人，也总比只为自己活着好得多。
