法医学是研究并解决与法律有关的人身损害、死亡、身份鉴识等问题,为刑事侦查提供线索,为审判提供证据的一门医学学科。法医学在维护司法公正、医疗秩序、医师合法权益等方面具有重要作用。从千百年的法医学实践不难看出,法医学的服务对象是国家司法机关、行政机关,因此,法医学是“国家医学”。法医学既是医学门类中的一级学科,也是证据法学学科的重要组成,具有自然科学兼社会科学属性,经过近一个世纪的发展进步,现代法医学基本形成了完整的科学技术体系,包括法医学知识体系、学术体系、学科体系和技术体系。法医学科学技术体系是开放体系,与其他医学知识、信息科学知识、数理化知识等多有交叉融合。高素质的临床医学人才除具备扎实的基础医学和临床医学知识技能外,还应具备一定的法医学知识,具有较强的医疗证据保全意识、医疗纠纷防范及处理能力和社会责任感。基于此,国家在医学高等教育课程体系中为临床医学专业学生设置了法医学必修课程。
