《高岛易断》是日本“易圣”高岛吞象一生智慧的结晶。书中收录了高岛氏亲断的近百多个占例，内容涉及日本军政大事、国际关系等，其中有些还曾上呈至日本天皇、内阁总理大臣等。
我国学者孙正治、孙奥麟以弘扬易学为己任，历经多年，始完成对《高岛易断》的点校、今译工作，不仅保留原书精髓，且对书中涉及的重大事件加注予以说明，对于研究《周易》在日本的流布应用及日本明治维新的历史，具有重大的参考价值。
高岛吞象，又名高岛嘉右卫门，1832年生于江户。明治维新时期的易学大师，在日本有"易圣"之称，他利用《易经》进行广泛的占卜，小到寻物、天气、婚姻、营商、疾病、个人气运等，大到国家的军事、政治、国际关系，有事必占，几乎每占必中，许多占断结果被日本天皇、内阁总理和各省大臣所采纳。
孙正治，易经学者，主要从事易经、佛学、民俗等领域的研究，著有《周易与佛法》，《人生不可破的28条天规》、《细说本命年》等书，点校《高岛易断》、《滴天髓》等古籍。

人们凡面临大事的时候，都希望预知未来的吉凶成败，但是这不是人所能臆测的，于是用至诚无息之术来询问鬼神。鬼神感知了所问的事情，就会把意象体现在笨数中，以昭示事情的休咎，以决定人们的趋避。《周易》说“卜以决疑”，就是这个道理。现在得到乾下乾上的卦，卦的含义如下，其他卦一也依此类推。
“乾”字本来写作“n即本卦的三个奇数交，一个连着一个，形成纯阳的卦，象征圆满的形态，后来假借为“三”这个数字。左旁从“卓”，“卓”的中间为‘旧”，上下象征光线，是太阳放光彩的象形。《说卦传》说:“乾，健也。”天的基本象征是天，特性是至刚，特点是至健，体象圆满充实，运动强力进取而不间断，所以用这个卦形和这个字来表示。乾:元亨利贞。
[经传释义]
这五个字是周文王系在卦下的，叫做象辞。乾为天，这在上文已经说过了，在人伦则为君王、父亲、丈夫，因为天包裹着地，君王抚爱百姓，父亲养育子女，丈夫率领妻子，都是同一个道理。
元亨利贞四者是乾卦的卦德。乾秉有纯阳的特性而兼有这四种卦德，所以作为本始的元气而充满宇宙，没有瞬息的间断，这就是所谓健而不息。人能效法乾元之健，自然气力充实，言行无愧于心，即孟子所说的“浩然之气”，“至大至刚”，“配义与道，无是馁也”。这样的人就是上承天命而有至德的圣人。
元，开始的意思，大的意思，仁的意思。它不朽不坏，是天地的大德，所以能化生万物。“元”字从“二”从“人”，“仁”字、“天”字一也是这样。在天为元，在人为仁，就像仁爱者推广爱己之心而及于他人一样。
亨，通的意思，指事物从开始产生到成就。在人为礼。人的处世以礼让为贵，这样就可以使人产生爱意，像仁爱者的博爱一样。
利，宜的意思，吉的意思，万物发达而各自表现其自然本性的意思在人为义，意味着见利思义。利与义好像相反，而实际上足以相成。以义为利，利就是义。“义”字从“羊”从“我”，一丁一我牧羊而穿它们的皮毛，吃它们的肉，是自食其力，不求额外的东西。义即宜，即正当的利益“禾IJ”字，《说文解字》说从“刀”从“和”。和才有“利”, “利”字本来从“和”而省去了“口”字，所以《文言》说:“利者义之和一也”。
