在资管行业的纷繁信息中，“长期投资”始终高频出现，而长期主义也是众多投资大师的“制胜法宝”。长期主义，看似简单，实则不易。其背后的难点在于多重因素——资本市场的波动、个人风险的承受能力、对投资的认知等。
中国的资产管理行业发展飞速，尤其是近十年，投资的产品、策略和渠道持续创新，投资者的认知也在不断迭代。如何协助投资者搭建系统的知识框架，并陪伴他们度过难熬的投资低谷，是我们持续思考的问题，也是笔者撰写本书的初心。在投资大师大卫 • 思文森在理念中，投资者想要从资本市场获取收益无外乎借助三种工具：资产类别配置、选择单个资产和择时交易。但是我们认为，除了上述工具外，一个坚持长期主义的理念也至关重要。

公募基金在中国的普及程度，或许超过公众的认知。统计数据显示， 截至2021年年末，中国公募基金服务的有效账户数超过 14 亿户。可是，倘若把目光在周围扫一圈，公募基金远远算不上“普及”，很多人可能还不知道自己买了基金产品。
显然，公众对于公募基金的认知，有一个“剪刀差”。大量的公募基金持有人买了基金而不自知，这是行业发展过程中一个颇为有趣的问题。在公募基金普及的过程中，“宝宝类”货币基金显然起到了重要的作用。截至2023年二季度末，公募基金行业持有人数量最多的“宝宝类”产品， 持有人户数高达7.46亿户。
有趣的是，有很多持有“宝宝类”产品的持有人，将其当成了“余额增值服务和活期资金管理服务产品”，而并未意识到其实自己购买了基金。
庞大的持有人数量，并不意味着公募基金在居民理财中唱上了“主角”。从居民资产配置的角度来看，公募基金还在“跑龙套”。截至2021年年末，中国公募基金规模占家庭金融资产的比重约为3.5%，与美国 23% 的比重相比仍然很低；中国公募基金规模占GDP的比重为 22.35%，与美国140%的比重相比也有巨大差距。
伴随着“房住不炒”概念的深入人心，越来越多的家庭开始更加关注公募基金的作用。
基金的前世今生
公募基金之所以能够“飞入寻常百姓家”，一定程度上是时代的需要，巴菲特推崇“投资就是投国运”。对于大部分普通人而言，公募基金是普惠的投资工具。在一个国家经济高速增长的过程中，公募基金类似于公共交通工具，让普通人也能搭上财富增长的顺风车。
在中国，公募基金并非自古就有，而是起源于英国的舶来品。在海外称为共同基金，共同基金进入中国后，则被称为公募基金，从历史渊源来看，公募基金的诞生源自西方国家中产阶级的崛起。
公募基金的雏形，诞生于首次工业革命后的英国，经历百年工业革命和对外贸易后，英国中产阶级崛起并积累了颇为可观的财富，然而，当时英国国内的利率很低，大量的闲置资金须有合适的理财工具，1868年，为了拓展海外殖民地，英国政府批准成立了世界上最早的契约型基金，也是公认的现代投资基金的雏形——“海外和殖民地政府信托基金”。
