曹雪芹（约1715—约1763），男，名沾，字梦阮，号雪芹，又号芹溪、芹圃，清代著名小说家。江宁府（现江苏南京）人。素性放达，曾身杂优伶而被钥空房。爱好研究广泛：金石、诗书、绘画、园林、中医、织补、工艺、饮食等。他出身于一个“百年望族”的大官僚地主家庭，因家境衰落而饱尝人世间的辛酸，曹雪芹的曾祖母孙氏曾做过康熙的奶妈，祖父曹寅做过康熙的侍读。从康熙二年至雍正五年，曾祖曹玺、祖父曹寅，父亲曹顒、叔父曹頫，相继担任「江宁织造」达六七十年之久。「织造」是专为宫廷采办丝织品和各种日用品的官职，官阶虽不高，但是非皇亲不能充任。后以坚韧不拔的毅力，历经多年艰辛创作出极具思想性、艺术性的伟大作品《红楼梦》。
