内容简介

《西游记》是中国古代浪漫主义章回体长篇神魔小说。这部小说以“唐僧取经”这一历史事件为蓝本，通过作者的艺术加工，深刻地描绘了当时的社会现实。全书主要描写了孙悟空出世及大闹天宫后，遇见了唐僧、猪八戒和沙僧三人，西行取经，一路降妖伏魔，经历了九九八十一难，终于到达西天见到如来佛祖，*终五圣成真的故事。

作家出版社在1953年建社初期，*早出版的图书中就有《红楼梦》《水浒传》《三国演义》《西游记》四部古典名著。是新中国以来出版*早、也是*有影响的版本之一。该四部名著，我们从繁多的版本中，选择了*能体现著作精髓的版本，分别为：《红楼梦》（程乙本）、《水浒传》（容与堂本）、《三国演义》（毛评本）、《西游记》（世德堂本），邀请中国社科院专家精心勘校、注释，精选近二百张绣像插图，力求成为读者阅读的*版本。

作者简介

吴承恩（1500年—约1582年），字汝忠，号射阳山人。汉族，淮安府山阳县人（现淮安市淮安区人）。祖籍安徽 ，以祖先聚居枞阳高甸，故称高甸吴氏。

校注者简介

吕薇芬，1936年生。1960年毕业于北京大学中文系，进入中国科学院哲学社会科学部文学研究所（即今中国社会科学院文学研究所）工作，先后在民间文学研究室、古代文学研究室从事研究工作。1985年任《文学遗产》编辑部主任，后又任该刊副主编兼编辑部主任，编审。1993年享受政府特殊津贴。主要学术著作有《中国古典传记·元明清》《全元散曲典故词典》《古本戏曲丛刊》第五集（吴晓铃主编，吕薇芬、幺书仪考订、编辑）、《张可久集校注》（与杨镰合作）、《元曲三百首》《散曲流派传》（与黄卉合作）、《全元曲典故辞典》等。

鲁迅先生在他的《中国小说史略》中，称《西游记》为“神魔小说”，这就可以知道这部小说带有神话性。然而，它却又是从真实的历史事件演化而来的。唐贞观年间，玄奘和尚去天竺（今印度）求取佛经，跋山涉水，途经五十多国，历尽艰难险阻，耗时十七年，取回佛经六百五十七部，回来后在长安翻译佛经。当时称为盛事，唐太宗为此写了《圣教序》。玄奘回来后，除翻译佛经外，还写了《大唐西域记》。他的门下慧立和尚写了《大慈恩寺三藏法师传》五卷，叙述玄奘的家世和取经的艰难历程，如出玉门关，过沙河，到高昌国，遭国王强力挽留等。这些过程富有传奇色彩，是文学创作的好素材。于是西天取经故事在民间流传过程中渐渐被神话化，故事越来越丰富，离真人真事也就越远。
