公元前399年,哲学家苏格拉底被传讯,说他不信城邦诸神,引进新的精灵之事,败坏青年。苏格拉底在由500人组成的陪审团面前作了著名的申辩。但申辩并没有挽救苏格拉底的性命,他*后被判处死刑。苏格拉底之死和耶稣之死,为西方文明打下了两个基本色调。而苏格拉底之死之所以成为西方哲学史上的核心事件,首先要归功于柏拉图的《苏格拉底的申辩》。

本书包含三个部分内容,一个是北京大学吴飞教授据希腊文翻译的柏拉图的《苏格拉底的申辩》,并作了很多注释,对理解文本很有帮助;第二部分是吴飞教授为这个中文译本写的导言,对这个古代经典文本的背景知识,给读者一个较为总体的概念;第三部分是吴飞教授从自己的角度,对柏拉图的《苏格拉底的申辩》的一个相对独立的解读和思考,特别是对《苏格拉底的申辩》中哲学与政治之间的关系的理解。第三部分尤其重要,是中国学者自觉地用西方古典思想来理解现实处境、逐渐回归中国自身的问题的一个尝试。

    然后,苏格拉底说出了他那句千古传诵的名言:“我去死,你们去生。我们所去的哪个更好,谁也不知道,除非是神。”(42a2-5)从他对雅典人的告别演说中,我们早已看到了苏格拉底的心胸。认识到人的必然局限并以哲学为业的他,绝不是一个斤斤计较、睚眦必报的人。虽然他告诉雅典人说,好人一定有好报,坏人会受到谴责,但被整个雅典处死的苏格拉底知道,对他的在天之灵的好安慰,并不是让整个雅典城遭受天谴。那么,我们就不能简单地把这句话理解为:我会高贵地死去,享受神给的赐福,你们会庸庸碌碌地活下去,遭受神给的报应。苏格拉底从没有说,他会知道只有神知道的知识。他在这里既然说只有神知道,这结果就只有神知道。我们更不能把这理解为苏格拉底对雅典人的诅咒。即使在应该预言和诅咒的地方,苏格拉底真正给出的,也不是一个诅咒;而今,在刚刚向雅典人托孤之后,苏格拉底难道又要给雅典一个诅咒吗?

其实,苏格拉底的意思非常简单。他既然说生与死哪个更好只有神知道,那就是说,他并不知道。这句话当然首先是对“无知之知”的一个终概括。还有什么事情比生死更大?但面对这样重大的事情需要作出选择的时候,谁不要作出判断?而谁在作出判断的时候,不是基于自己的一个假设?普通人往往假定生比死好,于是为自己的生活态度找到了种种依据。苏格拉底同样要作出一个事关重大的决定,而他同样不知道生和死究竟哪个更好,那他就同样需要作出一个假设,以便为自己的抉择提供理由。于是他假定,死不是必然不好的,而是一件很有可能会好的事。但这个假定来自哪里?不是来自常识,不是来自众议,也不是来自神话传说,甚至也不是来自精灵的暗示,而是来自一个更根本的假定,即关于什么是好的假定。苏格拉底的终根据,不是对生死究竟是不是好的假定,而是对什么是好的假定。如果假定了生与死哪个更好,就已经决定了自己的选择,根本没有思考的空间了。而苏格拉底的假定又来自对智慧的一种理解:人不可能有真正的智慧,但一定存在真正的智慧。由于苏格拉底的假定基于人不可能有真知的基础上,因而是所有可能的假定中灵活、不会限定思考的一个。于是,他根据这个假定,在辩证的对话中思考生的好处在哪里,死的好处可能在哪里。他虽然并不确切地知道生死究竟会是怎样,但能够通过这个假定找到自己生的根据和死的理由。

Exceptions / non-returnable items 

Certain types of items cannot be returned, like perishable goods (such as food, flowers, or plants),  custom products (such as special orders or personalized items), and personal care goods (such as  beauty products). We also do not accept returns for hazardous materials, flammable liquids, or  gases. Please get in touch if you have questions or concerns about your specific item. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.

The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return  is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item.
